Pantomime star Matt Slack is battling to be well enough to perform after losing his voice.
The comedian is starring in Aladdin at Birmingham Hippodrome but has been fighting a nasty infection for a month.
His voice has returned after drastic medical treatment, but doctors say it could take a year to fully recover.
Matt is playing Wishee Washee in the panto, which opens on Friday, December 19. He’s returning for the third year running after his slapstick routines went down so well with audiences.
But he might not have quite the same vocal dexterity this time.

He says: “I had to have an injection right into one of my vocal chords, which had just stopped working.
“I’m finding it hard to breathe and to talk. It’s very upsetting.
“I sound like Harry Potter or someone who’s voice is breaking, it’s high and then suddenly goes low.
