Chuckle at David Walliams’ Gangsta Granny at the New Alex and step into the wardrobe on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe set at Birmingham REP.

There are loads of fabulous things to do as a family from December 11 to 13.

You can also explore what Christmas will be like for astronaut Tim Peake in space at Thinktank, go on a festive trail at RSPB Sandwell Valley and join in a swashbuckling Peter Pan panto in Malvern. Oh yes you can!

Remember to book ahead to avoid disappointment, especially at this busy time of year.

The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Family Workshop

A magical drama workshop for the whole family is taking place at Birmingham Repertory Theatre on December 12 from 11.30am – 1pm.

Step through the wardrobe to create an imaginary world and perform as some of the best-loved characters from the show. Suitable for ages 7 – 11 (tickets cost £6).

The show runs until January 16, with tickets starting from £7.50 and family tickets available.

Christmas… The Final Frontier At Thinktank

Exploring what Christmas will be like in space will be the theme at Thinktank, when the science museum takes inspiration from astronaut Tim Peake at the International Space Station on December 12, 13, 19 and 20.

There will be a special show in the Planetarium exploring the real astronomy behind one of the most famous star stories of all – the Christmas star said to have been followed by the three kings.

And Thinktank’s classroom is being converted into a technological version of Santa’s workshop, where visitors can build their own small electronic toys for Christmas stockings! The workshop costs just £5, including all materials (pre-booking advised).

Children can also enjoy brunch with Santa on December 21, 22 and 23.

Tickets cost £14 per person (£10 for Membership Plus holders).

Gangsta Granny at the New Alexandra Theatre

There will be cabbage soup, cabbage pie and cabbage cake on a Friday night stay at Granny’s, and Ben knows one thing for sure – it’s going to be sooooooooo boring!

But what Ben doesn’t know is that Granny has a secret, and Friday nights are about to get more exciting than he could possibly imagine, as he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime with his very own Gangsta Granny!

The show runs from December 7 to 12, after which it will go on a national and international tour. Tickets start at £24.40.

The Birmingham Stage Company’s world premiere production of Gangsta Granny by David Walliams will be their first show to appear at the New Alexandra Theatre, having moved from The Old Rep.

Celebrating Christ-tide in Tudor style at Blakesley Hall

The clock will turn back to the 16th century at Blakesley Hall in Birmingham on December 12 and 13.

With Christmas being one of the most important feasts in the Tudor year, the house will be bustling with historic re-enactors decking the hall with holly and ivy, preparing meals to grace the Christ-tide feast table and performing music on traditional instruments.

Yuletide treats will be served in the tea room, and a small market will offer local crafts and confections for sale.

Admission is £10 for adults, £8 for concessions and £6 for children.

Peter Pan Pantomime at Malvern Theatres

Malvern Theatres’s Christmas Pantomime Peter Pan stars Corrie’s Mark Moraghan as love-able baddie Captain Hook from December 10 to January 3.

The production, adapted from the original story by JM Barrie, also features Balamory’s PC Plum, Andrew Agnew, and Hannah-Jane Fox from CBBC’s Millie Inbetween.

Jessica Punch will take the title role and Hook’s pirate crew will include the hilarious comedy acrobats The Nitwits.

Tickets start at £10.34.

Christmas Trails at RSPB Sandwell Valley

Families with young children can take part in self-guided Christmas Trails every Wednesday to Sunday in the run-up to Christmas, anytime between 10am and 3pm.

Children will have the unique opportunity to explore the reserve in search of the friendly animals that have helped Santa prepare for Christmas.

The trails cost £2 per child and include a small present at the end.

Compton Verney Fireworks

Compton Verney is staging an explosive evening of entertainment and education on Sunday, December 13 at 5.30pm.

Join members of the Royal Society of Chemistry to discover the science behind fireworks, then watch an amazing display by Jonathan’s Fireworks in the beautiful grounds.

There’s also storytelling and festive craft activities on all weekend from 11am to 4pm.

Normal admission fees apply.
