There are 2,241 reasons to remember the Birmingham Blitz.
That’s how many people died at home in the city during the Second World War, due to four nights of heavy bombing in November 1940.
Now, to mark the 75th anniversary of the tragedy, Birmingham Hippodrome has commissioned an evocative light and sound art installation.

The illuminated multimedia project, called 2,241 Reasons To Remember, depicts the back of a blown-out terraced house lit by 2,241 lanterns, each with a deceased’s name.
Each has been made by members of the public, schools, theatre staff and local businesses.

It is next to the Tree of Life Birmingham Blitz memorial on Edgbaston Street, opposite the Bullring Markets, and runs until November 22.
The public will once again hear the haunting sounds of air raid sirens and the dreaded drone of German bombers, plus first-hand accounts of those who survived those terrible nights. Plus there will be powerful archive images to look at.
