Because Christmas Day falls on a Friday and Boxing Day on a Saturday in 2015, we are getting a long holiday weekend, with the Boxing Day bank holiday instead taking place on the Monday.
Part of that long festive break is the Sunday, December 27, and there’s plenty going on in Birmingham on that day.

Cinderella: A Fairytale at the mac
On until January 9 at the mac in Cannon Hill Park, this original take on the classic fairy tale was created by Tobacco Factory Theatres and Travelling Light Theatre Company. Featuring a quirky visual style and original live music, it won a 2014 Off West End Award and was nominated for a 2013 Olivier Award.

Peter Pan at The Blue Orange Theatre
New independent venue The Blue Orange Theatre, at 118 Great Hampton Street in the Jewellery Quarter, is offering a trip to Neverland this Christmas with its production of Peter Pan.

The Great Canadian Circus at Star City
Billed as the ‘biggest circus ever to hit Birmingham’, the Great Canadian Circus is at Star City from December 17 to January 3. The December 27 performances are at 2pm and 5pm. You can book on 0844 453 9084.
See the incredible OMG ! Stunt Riders and the Globe of Death, with eight motorcyclists speeding around a steel cage at over 60mph and performers experiencing G forces similar to those that affect astronauts. Featuring Europe’s youngest stunt rider Peter Pavlov.
The show also includes The Brophy Family Wild West spectacular, the Eremia Brothers on the wheel of death, a transforming robot, Miss Bonita Hula hoop sensation, Princess of the sky Miss Emilia, Krizstian on the aerial straps. Gorden Marquez and his whirlwind juggling, Canada’s Wacky Wrestlers and Rocky the Clown.
Producer and director Mark Whitney said: "This is amazing family entertainment for Christmas and New year. We’re bringing traditional circus entertainment in a thrilling two-hour production for all the family. Our amazing show is all housed in a state-of-the-art, fully-heated, modern, theatre-style big top."

The Christmas Craft Market might be gone from Centenary Square but the ice rink and big wheel are continuing over the festive period, until January 10.
The rink is open from 10am each day.

Solihull Ice Rink and Mr Frosty’s Snow Garden
An outdoor ice rink came to Solihull for the first time in 2015. Let’s Skate Solihull is running in Mell Square until January 3.
Alongside it is Mr Frosty’s Snow Garden, a winter wonderland in Mell Square for children aged six and under to run around in the artificial snow.

See a film at the cinema
There are plenty of Christmas films on at the cinemas in Birmingham over the festive season.
At the Electric Cinema, the December 27 offerings are Elf, Gremlins, Frozen Singalong and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Cineworld in Broad Street is showing Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 27.
Treasure Island at The Old Rep
The Old Rep Theatre in Station Street is bringing the high seas to landlocked Brum with its adaptation of pirate adventure Treasure Island, on until January 3 – check the theatre box office for available tickets. The December 27 performances are at 1pm and 5pm.
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe at Birmingham Rep
Journey to Narnia with Birmingham Rep’s adaptation of the classic fantasy adventure, on until January 16 at the theatre in Centenary Square. The December 27 performance is at 4pm. Call the box office on 0121 236 4455.
Jack and the Beanstalk at the Palace Theatre
The Palace Theatre in Redditch is offering comedy capers with its adaptation of Jack and the Beanstalk, featuring X Factor finalist Lloyd Daniels as Jack and singer Vernie Bennett (a former member of R&B girl group Eternal) as the Spirit of the Beans. Performances on December 27 are at 1.30pm (signed) and 5.30pm. The show runs until January 3.
Aladdin at the Hippodrome
Once again presented by the world’s biggest pantomime producer, Qdos Entertainment, this glittering new production is on at the Hippodrome until January 31 and stars Marti Pellow, Julian Clary, Lee Mead (as Aladdin) and Matt Slack.
The show features magical 3D flying carpet rides and an Aladdin’s cave of comedy and costumes. December 27 performances are at 1pm and 5.15pm – check with the box office for ticket availability on 0844 338 5000.
